Welcome

Hello to all interested people and potential fencers, and a big welcome to the official website of the Wolverhampton Fencing Club (WFC).

We have been fencing as a club since being founded in 1948 by William Henry Clee, Doctor Edward Pringle, A. John Kinsley (a local farmer) and Charles Mott (a Local Council employee). *

The Club was established in 1948 when Mr Kinsley wrote a letter to the Express and Star asking for interest and support in starting up a fencing club in Wolverhampton.

From this letter he received 43 replies from people expressing interest in a club.

The first committee meeting to organise and set up a club was held in Saint Peter’s Gardens as the committee were unable to find a room to hold the meeting.

In the first two years, membership of the club held steady at around 40 members and the club continued but sadly, the club’s fortunes declined in the 1960’s.

Happily, the club survived and still continues today, 73 years after it was founded, and still meets up for fencing sessions on Monday nights at the present venue of Colton Hills School dance studio. If you are interested in learning a new sport then please come along and have a try.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or just want to chat about fencing please feel free to contact us by either clicking the Contact link at the top of the page, or by clicking here.

*I am very grateful to Dennis Clee, the son of co-founder William Henry Clee   (Harry) for providing me with the names of the other founders of the club.
